Vibhīṣaṇa’s Arrival and the Debate on Refuge
तंमेरुशिखराकारंदीप्तामिवशतह्रदाम् ।गगनस्थंमहीस्थास्तेददृशुसर्ववानराः ।।6.17.2।।
All the Vanaras on the ground saw Vibheeshana who was like Mount Meru in form and shining like a brilliant lightning.
Dharma here is indirect: it frames Vibhīṣaṇa’s approach as dignified and luminous, preparing the audience to evaluate him by truth and conduct rather than mere suspicion.
Vibhīṣaṇa appears in the sky near Rāma’s camp; the vānaras notice his imposing, radiant presence.
The verse highlights Vibhīṣaṇa’s majesty and clarity—suggesting moral seriousness and a truthful intent, even before he speaks.
