Mārkaṇḍeya-varṇanam
The Description of Mārkaṇḍeya
Sanatkumara (teaching Narada in the Narada–Sanatkumara dialogue context)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: shanta
It declares that true bhakti is validated by lived dharma: sincere service to one’s parents, performed with sacred reverence, is counted as the mark of the highest Bhagavata.
Bhakti is not only temple-rites or pilgrimage; it is the sanctification of daily duties. Seeing parental service with the same holy attitude as Gaṅgā and the universal Lord makes one’s conduct itself an offering to Bhagavān.
No specific Vedāṅga (like Vyākaraṇa or Jyotiṣa) is taught here; the practical takeaway is dharma-sādhana—right conduct (sadācāra) and seva as an applied discipline supporting bhakti.
