Narration of Dharma
परस्त्रीसङ्गविमुखा न पश्यन्ति यमालयम् । जितेन्द्रि या जिताहारा गोषु क्षान्ताः सुशीलिनः ॥ ११७ ॥
parastrīsaṅgavimukhā na paśyanti yamālayam | jitendri yā jitāhārā goṣu kṣāntāḥ suśīlinaḥ || 117 ||
Ceux qui se détournent de la fréquentation des épouses d’autrui ne voient pas la demeure de Yama. Maîtres de leurs sens, sobres dans la nourriture, patients et doux envers les vaches, et d’une conduite vertueuse, ils ne vont pas au royaume du châtiment.

The verse links ethical purity (avoiding illicit relations), sense-restraint, and disciplined living with freedom from punitive post-death states symbolized by Yama’s abode—implying that inner restraint is itself a protective dharma.
In the Narada Purana’s framework, bhakti is supported by śuddha-ācāra (pure conduct): controlling the senses and living gently makes the mind fit for devotion and remembrance of the Divine, reducing karmic causes of suffering.
It emphasizes applied dharma rather than a specific Vedanga: indriya-nigraha and āhāra-niyama function as practical disciplines supporting vrata-like purity and daily conduct (sadācāra).
