The Description of the Index (Anukramaṇikā) of the Padma Purāṇa
Narada
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
It praises Purāṇa-śravaṇa (devotional listening) and states that hearing the Padma Purāṇa—especially its Uttara-khaṇḍa—confers comprehensive spiritual merit (sarva-puṇya).
By elevating “listening” (śravaṇam) to sacred narratives as a direct devotional practice, it aligns with bhakti methods where attentive hearing of divine lore purifies the mind and accumulates merit.
No specific Vedāṅga (like Vyākaraṇa or Jyotiṣa) is taught here; the practical takeaway is the dhārmic discipline of śravaṇa—regular, reverent hearing of Purāṇic recitation.
