The Narration of the Trayodaśī Vow Observed Throughout the Twelve Months
ऊर्ज्शुक्लत्रयोदश्यामेकभोजी द्विजोत्तम । पुनः स्नात्वा प्रदोषे तु वाग्यतः सुसमाहितः ॥ ४८ ॥
ūrjśuklatrayodaśyāmekabhojī dvijottama | punaḥ snātvā pradoṣe tu vāgyataḥ susamāhitaḥ || 48 ||
Ô le meilleur des deux-fois-nés : au Trayodaśī de la quinzaine claire du mois d’Ūrja, qu’il ne prenne qu’un seul repas; puis, au crépuscule (pradoṣa), après s’être baigné de nouveau, qu’il retienne sa parole et demeure parfaitement recueilli.

By prescribing ekabhoga, pradoṣa-snana, and vāg-niyama, the verse prepares the practitioner for focused remembrance and worship; such self-control is treated as supportive discipline (aṅga) for steady bhakti.
It relies on calendrical and lunar-day observance—tithi-based timing (śukla trayodaśī) and pradoṣa (twilight junction)—a practical application aligned with Jyotiṣa-style ritual scheduling.
