भीष्मपातने कर्णविलापः | Karṇa’s Lament upon Seeing Bhīṣma Fallen

धनंजयशरैरव्याप्तं पितरं ते महाव्रतम्‌ । तं॑ वीरशयने वीरं शयान पुरुषर्षभम्‌

dhanañjayaśarair avyāptaṃ pitaraṃ te mahāvratam | taṃ vīraśayane vīraṃ śayānaṃ puruṣarṣabham

Sañjaya dit : Ton père, gardien du grand vœu, ne fut pas transpercé par les flèches de Dhanañjaya (Arjuna). Ce héros—le meilleur des hommes—gisait sur le lit des héros, le champ de bataille, reposant à la manière des vaillants. Le vers souligne l’éthique du guerrier face à la mort, et le poids moral des liens filiaux tendus par la guerre.
