भीष्मपातने कर्णविलापः | Karṇa’s Lament upon Seeing Bhīṣma Fallen
यत्र धर्मपरो वृद्धः शेते भुवि भवानिह । “निश्चय ही इस लोकमें कोई भी अपने पुण्यकर्मोंका फल यहाँ नहीं भोगता है; क्योंकि आप वृद्धावस्थातक सदा धर्ममें ही तत्पर रहे हैं, तो भी यहाँ इस दशामें धरतीपर सो रहे हैं
yatra dharmaparo vṛddhaḥ śete bhuvi bhavāniha |
Sañjaya dit : «Ici gît un vieillard voué au dharma, étendu sur la terre nue. On dirait qu’en ce monde nul ne jouit vraiment, ici même, du fruit de ses œuvres méritoires : car même celui qui demeura fidèle à la droiture jusqu’à la vieillesse se trouve réduit à coucher à même le sol dans un tel état.»
