क्रूरमायोधनं जज्ञे तस्मिन् राजसमागमे । रुद्रस्येव हि क्रुद्धस्य निघ्नतस्तान् पशून् पुरा,राजाओंमें वह संघर्ष छिड़ जानेपर उस युद्ध-स्थलमें क्रूरताका ताण्डव होने लगा। जैसे पूर्व (प्रलय) कालमें क्रोधमें भरे हुए रुद्रदेवके द्वारा पशुओं (प्राणियों)-का संहार होते समय निर्दयताका दृश्य उपस्थित हुआ था
krūram āyodhanaṃ jajñe tasmin rājasamāgame | rudrasyeva hi kruddhasya nighnatastān paśūn purā ||
Sañjaya dit : Lorsque les rois se furent rassemblés et que le choc éclata, ce champ de bataille devint le théâtre d’un combat impitoyable. Il semblait pareil à l’antique dévastation, quand Rudra, en courroux, abattait les êtres vivants — image d’un massacre sans merci, submergeant toute retenue.
