Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s appraisal of Vāsudeva’s deeds
पश्यामस्त्रिषु लोकेषु न त॑ संस्थास्नुचारिषु । जातं चापि जनिष्यन्तं द्वितीयं चापि साम्प्रतम्,स्थावर-जंगमरूप तीनों लोकोंमें एकमात्र उशीनरपौत्र शैब्यको छोड़कर दूसरे किसी ऐसे राजाको न तो हम इस समय उत्पन्न हुआ देखते हैं और न भविष्यमें किसीके उत्पन्न होनेका लक्षण ही देख पाते हैं, जो इस महान् भारको वहन करनेवाला हो। इस मर्त्यलोकके निवासी मनुष्य उनकी गतिको नहीं पा सकेंगे
paśyāmas triṣu lokeṣu na taṁ saṁsthāsnucāriṣu | jātaṁ cāpi janiṣyantaṁ dvitīyaṁ cāpi sāmpratam ||
Vaiśampāyana dit : « Dans les trois mondes, parmi tous les êtres qui se meuvent et ceux qui demeurent immobiles, nous ne voyons—ni parmi ceux déjà nés, ni parmi ceux qui naîtront, ni même à présent—un second qui lui soit égal, capable de porter ce fardeau immense. Les hommes qui habitent le monde mortel ne pourront sonder le cours de sa destinée. »
