Suta Goswami (narrating Shiva-vrata instructions within the Linga Purana discourse)
It prescribes inner purity (control of anger and senses) together with simple sāttvika offerings and fasts on caturdaśī and aṣṭamī, presenting vrata as a key support for effective Linga-pūjā.
Śiva is implied as Pati—the Lord toward whom the disciplined pashu turns; the verse emphasizes that approaching Shiva-tattva requires ethical restraint and sense-mastery, not merely external ritual.
Upavāsa on caturdaśī and aṣṭamī, combined with jitakrodha and jitendriya discipline—an applied Pāśupata-style purification supporting worship and loosening pāśa (bondage).
