Related Themes: Agni Purana 93 (Puja-vidhi: devata-bali/upacara mapping)
It prescribes deity-specific upacāras (ritual gifts): ghee-mixed akṣata for Īśa (Śiva), lotus-water for Parjanya, and a saffron-bright banner for Jayanta—showing how offerings are matched to particular deities within a rite.
Beyond myth, the Agni Purana functions as a practical ritual handbook: it itemizes exact materials (akṣata, ghṛta, lotus-water, patākā, kuṅkuma) and assigns them to named deities, reflecting its wide-ranging, procedural coverage of worship-technology (pūjā-vidhi).
Correctly offering prescribed upacāras is taught as a means to secure divine favor—Śiva’s grace, rain/seasonal prosperity through Parjanya, and victory/auspicious success through Jayanta—thereby generating puṇya through disciplined, rule-based worship.
