The Rite of Raising/Placing the Pavitra

Concept: Ritual integrity: expiation for lapses, protective sealing (astra), completion (pūrṇāhuti), harmonizing directions (dikpāla-bali), and surrender of agency/results to Śiva.
Application: When unsure of procedural perfection, include prāyaścitta and pūrṇāhuti; make dikpāla offerings to ‘close’ the space; end by dedicating the act to Śiva.

Related Themes: Agni Purana 79 (homa-vidhi; bali and completion steps; manuscript variants noted in pāṭha)
It prescribes a sequence for concluding an expiatory homa: oblations with the protective astra-mantra, completion through pūrṇāhuti, directional guardian (dikpāla) offerings, and finally karmasamarpaṇa—dedicating the entire rite to Śiva.
It functions like a compact ritual manual entry, preserving procedural details (mantra-application, pūrṇāhuti closure, dikpāla-bali, and deity-dedication) that bridge Vedic homa structure with Purāṇic/Śaiva devotional framing.
The verse frames ritual completion as purification plus surrender: expiation removes fault, pūrṇāhuti seals the rite, offerings harmonize the cosmic directions, and dedicating the karma to Śiva redirects the act toward auspicious fruition and reduced karmic entanglement.
