Pavitrārohaṇa: Installing the Sanctifying Thread/Garland

Concept: Ritual dharma includes self-correction: acknowledging human fallibility (chidra) and applying prescribed expiation; closure (bandhana) is part of non-negligence and safety.
Application: In any homa, include a brief vidhicchidra-pūraka/prāyaścitta segment and a formal closing of the fire to prevent ritual incompleteness and practical hazards.

Related Themes: Agni Purana 78 (homa prayoga; completion rites; kṣamāpana context); Agni Purana sections on vyāhṛtis (where explained)
It teaches the homa-prayoga sequence: perform ācamana, then do a vidhicchidra-pūraka (corrective/expiatory) homa to cover procedural defects, complete the rite with a full vyāhṛti-homa, and finally formally conclude/secure the fire.
It functions as a concise ritual-operations rule—showing the Agni Purana’s manual-like coverage of practical liturgy (pūjā, homa, expiation, and closure), alongside its many other domains such as polity, medicine, and aesthetics.
By prescribing a corrective homa for omissions and a proper concluding offering with the vyāhṛtis, it safeguards ritual purity and intended merit (puṇya), ensuring the rite is completed without residual fault and with controlled, auspicious closure of Agni.
