Pavitrārohaṇa: Installing the Sanctifying Thread/Garland
Lord Agni (in dialogue tradition of the Agni Purana, instructing the sage Vasiṣṭha)

Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Mantra","entry_title":"Bali-mantra for Rudras, Kṣetrapālas, Dikpālas and Diggajas","lookup_keywords":["bali","kṣetrapāla","rudra","dikpāla","diggaja"],"quick_summary":"A protective bali formula: address Rudras and site-guardians with ‘namaḥ svāhā’, then offer to each direction and its elephant/guardian, finally dedicating to the ritual field and Agni."}
Concept: Dharma in ritual includes honoring liminal protectors (kṣetrapālas) and cosmic order (directions); the sacred is maintained by respectful acknowledgment of thresholds and perimeters.
Application: Before/after main worship, place bali at prescribed points (starting east) with the mantra to ritually ‘fence’ the space and reduce disturbances.
Khanda Section: Puja-vidhi (Bali/Upachara offerings; Kshetrapala and Dikpala propitiation)
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

Sandhi Resolution Notes:
Related Themes: Agni Purana 78 (bali and dik offerings; kṣetrapāla propitiation); Agni Purana lists of dikpālas/diggajas (where enumerated)
It prescribes a bali-offering formula and recipients: Rudras, the site-guardian(s) (Kṣetrapāla/Kṣetrapāda), the directional guardians beginning from the East (including the direction-elephants), and finally the presiding powers of the ritual site (Kṣetra) and Agni.
Beyond narrative theology, it records operational ritual procedure—how to distribute offerings to protective deities of space (directions and site-guardian), integrating temple/ritual-ground management (a Vāstu-like concern) with fire-ritual (Agni) practice.
Offering bali to Kṣetrapāla, Dikpālas, and Agni is meant to pacify and harmonize the powers presiding over the ritual space, removing obstacles, securing protection, and ensuring the rite yields auspicious, unobstructed results.
