Chapter 78 —
Pavitrārohaṇa: Installing the Sanctifying Thread/Garland
Lord Agni (narrating to Sage Vasiṣṭha, as per the dominant Agni Purāṇa dialogue frame)

It gives the precise homa-utterances (svāhā-mantras) and the offering order: to Agni, to Soma, jointly to Agni–Soma, and finally to Agni as Sviṣṭakṛt—used to complete and “perfect” the sacrifice.
Beyond mythic narration, it preserves a practical ritual manual: exact mantra-forms, deities of oblations, and the technical concluding offering (Sviṣṭakṛt) that ensures the rite is formally complete—showing the Purāṇa’s coverage of applied liturgy.
Offering with the correct svāhā formulas and ending with Sviṣṭakṛt is traditionally held to remove procedural defects in the rite, secure the intended fruit of the sacrifice, and support purification through properly concluded worship.
