Lord Agni (teaching) to Sage Vasiṣṭha (listener)
Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Mantra","secondary_vidya":"Vrata","practical_application":"Mantra-prayoga for cullikā-homa: Śiva-agni dhyāna (identifying fire as auspicious Śiva) and dual salutations to Agni and Soma using the bīja ‘hāṃ’, integrating heat/light and cooling/nectar principles in rite.","sutra_style":true}
Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Mantra","entry_title":"Śivāgni-dhyāna and ‘hāṃ’ namaskāra to Agni–Soma","lookup_keywords":["śivāgni","cullikā-agni","hāṃ","agnaye namaḥ","somāya namaḥ"],"quick_summary":"Visualize the hearth-fire as the auspicious Śiva-fire, then offer into it while reciting the ‘hāṃ’ salutations to Agni and to Soma, balancing fiery and lunar sacral forces within the homa."}
Concept: Non-dual ritual identification (tādātmya): the ritual fire is contemplated as Śiva; Agni and Soma represent complementary cosmic functions.
Application: Use dhyāna before mantra to align mind with deity-principle; invoke both heating and cooling sacral currents for steadiness in rite.
Khanda Section: Pūjā-vidhi / Agni-vidhi (Homa and mantra-prayoga)
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A small hearth-fire is visualized as Śiva’s auspicious presence; the priest offers oblation while the syllable ‘hāṃ’ appears as luminous seed, with Agni and Soma represented as twin energies—flame and cool moonlight.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural, central cullikā fire with a subtle Śiva aura (tripuṇḍra motif suggested), priest offering ghee, left side fiery Agni glow, right side cool Soma moon-disc, bold flat colors","tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore, gold-leaf flame halo, stylized Śiva auspicious symbols around the hearth, ‘hāṃ’ rendered as ornate calligraphy, Agni and Soma as paired emblems (flame and crescent), rich jewel tones","mysore_prompt":"Mysore style, clear ritual scene: priest at hearth, caption-like placement of mantra ‘oṃ hāṃ…’, balanced iconography of flame and moon, fine detailing and soft shading","mughal_miniature_prompt":"Mughal miniature, intimate indoor ritual, delicate calligraphic ‘hāṃ’ floating above the fire, moonlight beam entering from a window to signify Soma, meticulous vessels and textiles"}
Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"devotional","suggested_raga":"Yaman","pace":"medium","voice_tone":"devotional"}
Sandhi Resolution Notes: शिवाग्निः + त्वम् + इति → शिवाग्निस्त्वमिति (विसर्ग-लोप/सन्धि); चुल्लिका + अग्नौ → चुल्लिकाग्नौ
Related Themes: Agni Purana 77 (homa-mantra and nyāsa passages around Śiva/Agni)
It teaches a specific homa-prayoga: visualize the hearth-fire as “Śiva-agni,” place the offering into the cūllikāgni, and seal the act with the mantras invoking Agni and Soma using the bīja “hāṃ.”
It preserves a precise, practice-oriented micro-protocol of domestic ritual—linking visualization (dhyāna), the correct ritual fire (cūllikāgni), and mantra formulae—showing how the text catalogs actionable procedures alongside broader theology.
By identifying the fire with Śiva (auspicious purity) and harmonizing Agni with Soma (heat and cool nectar), the rite is framed as purificatory and merit-producing, stabilizing the sacrificer’s ritual efficacy and inner balance.
