Agni Purana — Vastu-Pratishtha & Isana-kalpa, Shloka 9

Agnisthāpana-vidhi (Procedure for Establishing the Sacred Fire) and Protective Īśāna-kalpa Homa Sequences

Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Mantra","entry_title":"Vahni-bīja Nyāsa and Agni Amṛtīkaraṇa with Dhenu-mudrā","lookup_keywords":["oṃ hūṃ","vahni-bīja","nyāsa","dhenu-mudrā","amṛtīkaraṇa"],"quick_summary":"Install Agni’s consciousness through bīja-nyāsa (Oṃ Hūṃ …), consecrate the fire with saṃhitā-mantras, and perform Dhenu-mudrā to ‘nectarize’ the fire for safe and efficacious homa."}

Concept: Mantra and mudrā ‘awaken’ and refine elemental forces; Agni becomes a conscious, sanctified medium for offering.

Application: Before oblations, perform bīja-nyāsa and mudrā to stabilize ritual energy and ensure offerings are carried properly (as intended) to the deity.

Khanda Section: Puja-vidhi (Agni-vidhi / Homa-mantra-nyasa and Tantric fire-invocation)

Primary Rasa: adbhuta

Secondary Rasa: bhakti

FAQs

It teaches Agni-invocation through nyāsa using the vahni-bīja, followed by consecrating the ritual fire with Saṃhitā-mantras and sanctifying it via the Dhenu-mudrā.

It preserves practical ritual technology—seed-mantras, nyāsa, and mudrā-prayoga—showing the text’s coverage beyond mythology into precise liturgical and tantric-ritual procedure.

By ritually ‘enlivening’ Agni and making the fire “amṛta-like” through mantra and mudrā, the rite is framed as purificatory and merit-bearing, preparing the offering-medium as a sanctified conduit for oblations.
