FAQs

It teaches dravya-śodhana (purification of a substance by inspection and related steps) and then combining specific digestive-related components to constitute the ‘anala-traya’—a technical triad of metabolic/digestive ‘fires’ used in Ayurvedic-style processing.

Alongside theology, the Agni Purana preserves applied knowledge: here it records practical pharmaceutic/medical processing—how to remove impurities, purify ingredients, and classify/compose them according to functional principles like digestive ‘agni’.

Purification and careful preparation are framed as both hygienic and dharmic: removing impure portions and properly ‘śodhana’-processing substances aligns action with purity (śauca), reducing harm and supporting bodily and ritual cleanliness.
