Chapter 59 — अधिवासनकथनं
Adhivāsana: The Rite of Inviting and Stabilizing Hari’s Presence
तस्मिन् हिरण्मयञ्चाण्डं सो ऽसृजत् पञ्चभूतवत् तस्मिन् सङ्क्रामिते जीवे शक्तिरात्मोपसंहृता
tasmin hiraṇmayañcāṇḍaṃ so 'sṛjat pañcabhūtavat tasmin saṅkrāmite jīve śaktirātmopasaṃhṛtā

Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Cosmology","secondary_vidya":"Philosophy","practical_application":"Explains brahmāṇḍa formation and the relation of jīva-entry to withdrawal of manifesting power; used to teach cyclic creation and the dependence of manifestation on śakti.","sutra_style":true}
Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Description","entry_title":"Hiraṇmaya Brahmāṇḍa and Śakti-Withdrawal upon Jīva-Entry","lookup_keywords":["hiraṇmaya aṇḍa","brahmāṇḍa","pañcabhūta","jīva-praveśa","śakti-upasaṃhāra"],"quick_summary":"A golden cosmic egg composed of the five elements is produced; when the jīva enters, the projecting power is reabsorbed into the Self. The takeaway is that manifestation proceeds by śakti and is ultimately gathered back into ātman."}
Concept: Śakti is the manifesting function that can be withdrawn into ātman; jīva’s entry marks a transition from pure projection to an ordered, inhabited cosmos.
Application: Supports a contemplative view of life-in-world as entry into a structured field; encourages detachment by remembering the cosmos is an evolute sustained by śakti and resolvable back into Self.
Khanda Section: Sarga / Cosmogony (Creation of the Brahmāṇḍa and the elements)
Primary Rasa: adbhuta
Secondary Rasa: shanta
Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A radiant golden cosmic egg floating in primordial space, subtly showing the five elements as layers; a spark-like jīva enters, and the outward-flowing creative energy retracts into a central Self-light.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural: large golden brahmāṇḍa with five colored elemental bands; tiny jīva-flame entering; surrounding waves of śakti curling back inward; bold outlines, temple-mural symmetry.","tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore: brahmāṇḍa as embossed gold oval with gemstone-like highlights; elemental layers indicated by colored rings; jīva as small flame; gold filigree showing śakti returning to a central lotus of ātman.","mysore_prompt":"Mysore: clear cosmology diagram aesthetic—egg cross-section with labeled pañcabhūtas; arrow showing jīva entry; arrow showing śakti-upasaṃhāra to ātman; elegant fine brushwork.","mughal_miniature_prompt":"Mughal miniature: luminous golden egg in a dark, star-speckled void; delicate depiction of elemental textures (mist, flame, water, earth); a tiny figure/spark entering; subtle inward spirals indicating withdrawal."}
Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"epic","suggested_raga":"Bhairav","pace":"medium","voice_tone":"contemplative"}
Sandhi Resolution Notes: hiraṇmayañcāṇḍaṃ = hiraṇmayam + ca + āṇḍam; so 'sṛjat = saḥ + asṛjat; śaktirātmopasaṃhṛtā = śaktiḥ + ātma-upasaṃhṛtā.
Related Themes: Agni Purana 59 (brahmāṇḍa and bhūta-sarga context)
It imparts cosmological vidyā: the doctrine that the brahmāṇḍa (cosmic egg) is formed from the pañca-bhūtas, and that once the jīva is situated within the created order, the manifesting śakti is reabsorbed into the ātman—an explanatory principle for creation and withdrawal.
Alongside ritual and practical sciences, the Agni Purāṇa preserves systematic metaphysics: it maps creation in technical terms (pañca-bhūta, jīva, śakti, ātman), functioning like a compact cosmology manual within its broader encyclopedic coverage.
Spiritually, it points to the supremacy of the ātman: the world-process is powered by śakti yet ultimately returns to the Self, encouraging detachment from transient formations (the ‘egg’ of manifestation) and orientation toward the abiding ātman.
