FAQs

Ayurvedic dravya-jñāna: the verse functions as a compact list of medicinal substances/drug-synonyms (e.g., yava, sarṣapa, ṛddhi-vṛddhi, amṛtā/guḍūcī) used for formulation, dietetic therapy, and therapeutic preparations.

It exemplifies the Purana’s nighaṇṭu-like cataloging of technical vocabulary—recording drug names and synonyms alongside broader topics—so the text serves as a reference compendium spanning ritual, polity, arts, and Ayurveda.

By preserving and transmitting healing knowledge (āyur-vidyā) within a dhārmic framework, the instruction supports ahiṃsā and welfare (lokahita); using such remedies for protection of life is treated as a meritorious, purifying application of sacred knowledge.
