Account of the Aṣṭamī Vow Across the Twelve Months
śayanaṃ ca pradātavyaṃ yathāśakti dvijottama | daśame'hni tato mūrtiṃ sadravyāṃ gurave'rpayet || 24 ||
Narada
Vrata: Kṛṣṇa-janmāṣṭamī vrata (contextual)
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: shanta
It emphasizes dāna (charitable giving) and guru-bhakti: supporting others according to one’s capacity and concluding a rite by honoring the Guru with a respectful, complete offering.
Bhakti is expressed here through reverence and service to the Guru—offering a mūrti and suitable wealth as a devotional act that seals the discipline of the observance with gratitude and surrender.
It reflects kalpa-style ritual procedure: prescribed timing (the tenth day) and specific dāna items (śayana-dāna, mūrti with sadravya) as part of orderly completion of a religious observance.
