एवं दश दिशो भीष्म: शरजालै: समन्तत: । अतीत्य सेनां पार्थानामवतस्थे चमूमुखे
evaṁ daśa diśo bhīṣmaḥ śarajālaiḥ samantataḥ | atītya senāṁ pārthānām avatasthau camūmukhe ||
Dijo Sañjaya: Así, Bhīṣma, tendiendo por doquier una lluvia de flechas como una red en las diez direcciones, rompió las fuerzas de los Pāṇḍavas y tomó posición en la misma vanguardia del ejército. La escena subraya la severa ética de la guerra kṣatriya: el dominio y la resolución en el campo de batalla pueden decidir formaciones y ánimo, aunque el conflicto mayor siga atado a la cuestión del dharma legítimo y al costo de la violencia.
