Śakaṭa-bhañjana, Naming by Garga, Dāmodara and Yamala-arjuna, and the Move to Vṛndāvana
इति कृत्वा मतिं सर्वे गमने ते व्रजौकसः ऊचुः स्वं स्वं कुलं शीघ्रं गम्यतां मा विलम्ब्यताम्
iti kṛtvā matiṃ sarve gamane te vrajaukasaḥ ūcuḥ svaṃ svaṃ kulaṃ śīghraṃ gamyatāṃ mā vilambyatām
Having thus resolved upon departure, all the dwellers of Vraja said: “Let each return at once to his own clan and household—go quickly; do not delay.”
Vrajaukasaḥ (the people/dwellers of Vraja) within the narration of Sage Parāśara to Maitreya
Speaker: Parasara
Topic: How the Vrajavāsins practically execute the decision to move—communal coordination and urgency.
Teaching: Historical
Quality: compassionate
Avatara: Krishna
Purpose: To maintain the safety and cohesion of His devotees as they organize themselves for departure, continuing His protective presence in Vraja.
Leela: Loka-rakshana
Dharma Restored: Social order and collective responsibility in Vraja—each household acting promptly for the welfare of all.
Concept: Collective welfare is secured when each family fulfills its immediate responsibility without delay.
Vedantic Theme: Dharma
Application: In crises, communicate clearly, delegate, and act promptly—dharma includes efficient, non-panicked coordination.
Vishishtadvaita: Devotional society thrives through mutual service (kainkarya) and ordered action, reflecting the harmony of the Lord’s body (jagat) under His guidance.
Vishnu Form: Krishna
Bhakti Type: Vatsalya
The verse frames a communal resolve: in unstable conditions, order is preserved by prompt, disciplined action—each returning to their rightful social unit (kula) without hesitation.
By depicting ordinary communities making practical, immediate decisions, Parāśara shows how dharma is upheld not only by kings and sages but also through collective restraint and timely conduct.
Even when Vishnu is not named in the verse, the Purana’s backdrop is that cosmic sovereignty and dharma ultimately rest in Vishnu; human order and right action are meaningful insofar as they align with that sustaining Reality.
