bho bho dānapate vākyaṃ kriyatāṃ prītaye mama itaḥ syandanam āruhya gamyatāṃ nandagokulam
“Ho there, ho there, O lord of generosity—do as I say to please me: mount the chariot from here at once and go to Nanda’s Gokula.”
A commanding figure addressing a ‘dānapati’ (generous lord); within Vishnu Purana Book 5 narrative this is situated in the Krishna-cycle where orders are issued to proceed to Nanda’s Gokula (speaker varies by recension/episode framing).
Avatara: Krishna
Purpose: Krishna’s movement from Gokula toward Mathurā is set in motion to fulfill the divine removal of Kaṃsa’s oppression.
Leela: Loka-rakshana
Dharma Restored: Safeguarding the cowherd community and initiating the end of unjust rule.
Vishnu Form: Hari
This verse highlights Gokula (Nanda’s settlement) as a key locus where Krishna’s līlā unfolds, making it a central devotional landscape in Book 5.
Even simple travel-commands (“mount the chariot, go to Gokula”) function as narrative pivots, showing how events align toward the divine purpose behind Krishna’s presence among the cowherds.
In Book 5, Krishna’s earthly movements are read as Vishnu’s līlā—ordinary actions become instruments of cosmic order, drawing devotees toward bhakti-centered dharma.
