Sage Parāśara (to Maitreya)
Speaker: Parasara
Topic: Enumeration of future Manus and their sons/devas/Indras in the manvantara cycle
Teaching: Cosmological
Quality: authoritative
Creation Stage: Manvantara
Bhakti Type: Shanta
Such lists map the Manvantara’s spiritual administration: rishis embody tapas and uphold dharma, showing how cosmic order is maintained under Vishnu’s sovereignty.
Parāśara presents a structured enumeration—identifying specific sages by name and rank (including ‘the seventh’)—to situate Maitreya within the Purana’s chronological and administrative cosmology.
Even when Vishnu is not named in the verse, the Manvantara order—sages, dharma, and governance—functions as Vishnu’s sustaining power, with tapas serving as a visible sign of that sustaining divinity.
