नग्न-परिभाषा तथा देव-स्तोत्रपूर्वक मायामोह-उत्पत्ति
Defining ‘Nagna’ and the Devas’ Hymn Leading to Māyāmoha
मयाप्य् एतद् अशेषेण कथितं भवतो द्विज समुल्लङ्घ्य सदाचारं कश्चिन् नाप्नोति शोभनम्
mayāpy etad aśeṣeṇa kathitaṃ bhavato dvija samullaṅghya sadācāraṃ kaścin nāpnoti śobhanam
Thus have I explained this to you completely, O twice-born. For one who oversteps the bounds of sadācāra, no true excellence—no genuine auspiciousness or splendor—can ever be attained.
Sage Parāśara (addressing Maitreya)
Speaker: Parasara
Topic: Concluding principle: transgressing sadācāra blocks śobhana (true auspicious excellence)
Teaching: Ethical
Quality: conclusive and admonitory
Concept: Auspicious excellence (śobhana) is unattainable for one who violates sadācāra; ethical discipline is the indispensable ground of flourishing and spiritual progress.
Vedantic Theme: Dharma
Application: Treat ethical boundaries as non-negotiable: cultivate daily disciplines (truthfulness, restraint, generosity) and avoid rationalizing breaches as ‘small’.
Vishishtadvaita: Dharma is not merely social convention but an expression of the Lord’s will; aligning conduct with it supports the soul’s rightful dependence and progress toward grace.
Bhakti Type: Shanta
This verse states that sadācāra is non-negotiable: without it, no genuine auspiciousness or excellence can be achieved, even if one seeks other spiritual or worldly gains.
He concludes his instruction by asserting a moral law: transgressing established righteous conduct blocks the attainment of śobhana—true well-being, honor, and auspicious fruition.
Though Vishnu is not named in this line, the teaching aligns with the Purāṇa’s worldview where Dharma upholds cosmic order under Vishnu’s sovereignty; right conduct is a lived participation in that order.
