Daitya–Dānava Vaṁśa, Kaśyapa’s Progeny, and the Birth of the Maruts
पुत्रत्वे कल्पयाम् आस स्वयम् एव पितामहः गन्धर्वभोगिदेवानां दानवानां च सत्तम
putratve kalpayām āsa svayam eva pitāmahaḥ gandharvabhogidevānāṃ dānavānāṃ ca sattama
O best of men, the Grandsire Pitāmaha (Brahmā) himself appointed them as sons—progenitors for the Gandharvas, the Bhogins (serpent races), the Devas, and the Dānavas.
Sage Parāśara (to Maitreya)
Creation Stage: Secondary
Concept: Cosmic species and divine/daemonic classes arise through delegated progenitorship—Brahmā appoints sages as functional ‘sons’ to structure creation.
Vedantic Theme: Dharma
Application: Recognize the role of delegated responsibility: stable systems arise when duties are clearly entrusted to the qualified.
Vishishtadvaita: Highlights hierarchical functional order (śeṣa–śeṣin style dependence) within creation, compatible with a Vishnu-governed cosmos where beings exist in coordinated service.
It marks the formal establishment of cosmic lineages—Brahmā assigns progenitor-status so each class of beings (Devas, Dānavas, Gandharvas, Nāgas) continues through an ordered genealogy rather than random emergence.
Parāśara presents creation as structured: Brahmā’s role includes assigning progenitors and familial relations, turning metaphysical emanation into a traceable lineage system that supports later dynastic and manvantara narratives.
Even when Brahmā is described as organizing progeny, the Vishnu Purana frames such cosmic governance within Vishnu’s supreme sovereignty—creation and lineage function as expressions of the higher sustaining reality identified with Vishnu.
