O all-pervading Lord, whose form is the universe—Creator of the worlds, O Janārdana—save these brahmins; deliver us from this unbearable fire kindled by the power of mantra.
A group of distressed brahmins (vipras) invoking Lord Vishnu (Janardana) for protection (as narrated by Sage Parāśara to Maitreya).
Speaker: Parasara
Teaching: Devotional
Quality: authoritative
Concept: The Lord is both sarvavyāpin (all-pervading) and jagatsraṣṭṛ (creator), therefore uniquely able to rescue beings from even mantra-born calamity.
Vedantic Theme: Brahman
Application: Contemplate the divine as immanent in the world and appeal to that presence when facing overwhelming circumstances.
Vishishtadvaita: Affirms Viṣṇu as both universe-embodied (jagadrūpa) and personal savior (Janārdana), uniting immanence with lordly agency.
Vishnu Form: Para-Brahman
Bhakti Type: Dasya
Antaryamin: Yes
Jagat Karana: Yes
It affirms Vishnu as the Supreme Reality who pervades everything and whose cosmic body is the universe—so refuge in him is refuge in the ground of all existence.
Through an urgent prayer: when worldly remedies fail (here, an unbearable mantra-born fire), the brahmins appeal to Vishnu as creator and sustainer, emphasizing his readiness to preserve dharma and his devotees.
Vishnu is portrayed not merely as a deity among others but as the all-pervading cosmic Lord who can override destructive forces, restoring order and safeguarding the righteous.
