Vena–Pṛthu Episode and the Milking of Earth
ततो ननाश त्वरिता गौर् भूत्वा तु वसुंधरा सा लोकान् ब्रह्मलोकादीन् संत्रासाद् अगमन् मही
tato nanāśa tvaritā gaur bhūtvā tu vasuṃdharā sā lokān brahmalokādīn saṃtrāsād agaman mahī
Then Vasundharā, the Earth, seized by fear, hastily vanished; taking the form of a cow, she fled trembling through the worlds, even to Brahmaloka and beyond.
Sage Parāśara (narrating to Maitreya)
Cosmic Hierarchy: Lokas
Lakshmi Presence: Bhumi
The cow-form (gauḥ) presents Earth as a nurturing, life-bearing mother whose fertility and stability can be threatened; it also frames the crisis in a way that invites later restoration of order under divine governance.
Parāśara describes fear as powerful enough to propel beings across the layered lokas, using Brahmaloka as a cosmic reference-point to show the vast scale of the disturbance.
Even when Vishnu is not named in the verse, the episode implies that cosmic disorder is temporary and ultimately resolved under the Supreme Lord’s sovereignty—the sustaining principle that re-establishes dharma and stability.
