Rudrākṣa Māhātmya — The Greatness of Rudraksha
स्वतंत्रेण परेशेन लोकोपकृतिकारिणा । लीलया परमेशानि चक्षुरुन्मीलितं मया
svataṃtreṇa pareśena lokopakṛtikāriṇā | līlayā parameśāni cakṣurunmīlitaṃ mayā
O Parameśānī, by the Supreme Lord—self-sufficient and transcendent, who acts for the welfare of the worlds—my eyes were opened through His līlā, His divine play.
Lord Shiva
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Sthala Purana: General Siddhāntic motif: the independent Lord (svatantra) grants awakening (unmīlana) by grace, not merely by self-effort; here framed as līlā for lokopakāra.
Significance: Emphasizes that true ‘darśana’/spiritual vision arises through Śiva’s anugraha; inspires surrender and devotion.
Type: stotra
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: liberating
Cosmic Event: Anugraha as ‘cakṣur-unmīlana’ (opening of inner vision) by the svatantra Lord.
It teaches that true spiritual vision is awakened by Parameśvara’s grace (anugraha): the independent Lord opens the seeker’s eyes, not merely effort alone, and He does so for the welfare of all beings.
In Linga-worship, the devotee approaches the Saguna form as the compassionate, world-benefiting Lord; this verse frames realization as Shiva’s līlā—His merciful action by which inner perception of the Linga’s truth is awakened.
Cultivate devotion and receptivity to grace through japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and steady dhyāna on Shiva as Parameśvara, praying for the “opening of the eyes” of inner discernment.
