The wise worshipper should install (unite and seat) Hara upon the altar (vedikā) by means of the Īśāna-mantra; and then, in brief, he should perform all the remaining ritual procedures as prescribed.
Sūta Gosvāmin (narrating the worship-method of Śiva as taught in the Vidyeśvara tradition)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Īśāna
Jyotirlinga: Viśvanātha
Sthala Purana: As this is in the Viśveśvara-saṃhitā, the ritual instruction is naturally read in the light of Kāśī-viśveśvara: Śiva is installed on the vedikā and worshipped by mantra, mirroring Kāśī as the paradigmatic seat where Śiva grants liberation.
Significance: Darśana and worship of Viśveśvara is classically held to bestow mokṣa (especially through Śiva’s anugraha in Kāśī).
Mantra: īśāna-mantra (not quoted in the verse)
It teaches that Śiva is approached through mantra and orderly worship: invoking Hara with the Īśāna mantra establishes the devotee’s connection to Pati (the Lord), after which the remaining rites refine devotion and purity—supporting liberation-oriented Śaiva practice.
The verse describes seating/establishing Hara on the ritual altar—an instruction aligned with Saguna worship where Śiva is invoked into the liṅga or worship-seat through mantra (āvāhana/saṃyojana), making the worship tangible and devotional while pointing to the transcendent Lord behind the form.
Use the Īśāna mantra to invoke and establish Lord Śiva on the vedikā (or liṅga), then complete the remaining steps of pūjā in a concise, disciplined manner—centering the mind on Śiva through mantra-japa and focused ritual attention.
