अघोरेण च मंत्रेण लिंगनिर्माणमाचरेत् । तत्पुरुषाय मंत्रेणाह्वानं कुर्याद्यथाविधि
aghoreṇa ca maṃtreṇa liṃganirmāṇamācaret | tatpuruṣāya maṃtreṇāhvānaṃ kuryādyathāvidhi
With the Aghora mantra one should perform the making and consecrated formation of the Śiva-liṅga; and with the Tatpuruṣa mantra one should invoke the Lord in the prescribed manner.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Aghoramūrti
Mantra: "aghorebhyo'tha ghorebhyo namo namaḥ" (Aghora-mantra; used here for liṅga-nirmāṇa) ; "tatpuruṣāya" (Tatpuruṣa-mantra phrase for āhvāna)
Type: rudram
Role: liberating
It teaches that Saguna worship of Śiva is not arbitrary: the liṅga is approached through mantra-śakti and prescribed order, aligning the devotee’s body-mind with Śiva’s auspicious presence for purification and grace (anugraha).
The verse explicitly connects liṅga-related worship to the Pañcabrahma stream of mantras—Aghora for the sanctified formation of the liṅga and Tatpuruṣa for āhvāna (invocation)—showing the liṅga as a ritually awakened seat of Śiva’s manifest presence.
It indicates mantra-guided practice: perform liṅga-nirmāṇa with the Aghora mantra and then invoke Śiva with the Tatpuruṣa mantra, following yathāvidhi (scriptural procedure) as part of liṅga-pūjā and pratiṣṭhā discipline.
