Bondage and Liberation: The Prakṛti–Karma Wheel and Śiva as the Transcendent Cause
आवाहनादिकं सर्वमाचार्येणैव कारयेत् । आचार्य ऋत्विजा सार्धं तन्मात्रान्प्रजपेच्छतम्
āvāhanādikaṃ sarvamācāryeṇaiva kārayet | ācārya ṛtvijā sārdhaṃ tanmātrānprajapecchatam
All rites beginning with the invocation (āvāhana) should be carried out only through the ācārya (preceptor). The ācārya, together with the officiating priest (ṛtvij), should have the prescribed mantra-form recited one hundred times.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Role: teaching
It emphasizes that Shiva-worship becomes spiritually effective when performed under a qualified ācārya, aligning devotion (bhakti) with correct method (vidhi), so the act becomes a disciplined offering to Pati (Shiva) rather than mere personal improvisation.
The verse is directly ritual-instructional: in Saguna Shiva worship through the Linga, steps like āvāhana and other upacāras are to be conducted through the ācārya and ṛtvij, protecting the sanctity of the consecrated form and ensuring the worship follows Shaiva injunctions.
It prescribes mantra-japa in a fixed count—one hundred recitations—performed under priestly guidance, suitable as part of Linga-puja (especially during vrata days like Mahāśivarātri) to stabilize attention and devotion.
