Now, if a man meets death in this land of Bhārata, then by dwelling at the Svayambhū-sthāna—the self-manifest abode of Śiva—he attains human birth again, returning to embodiment fit for renewed spiritual striving.

Sthala Purana: Svayambhū-sthāna is presented as a self-manifest Śiva-abode whose residence confers a salvific ‘reset’—even if death occurs, the jīva gains renewed human embodiment conducive to sādhana, implying Śiva’s protective governance over transmigration.
Significance: Residence near a svayambhū-liṅga is said to safeguard the soul’s post-mortem trajectory, restoring human birth (manuṣyatva) for continued pursuit of mokṣa.
Role: nurturing
It teaches that proximity to Śiva’s self-manifest sacred abode sanctifies one’s karmic trajectory: even if death occurs, the merit of such residence supports a renewed human birth suitable for continued sādhana toward Śiva-realization.
“Svayambhū-sthāna” points to a self-manifest liṅga/abode where Saguna Śiva is approached through place-based devotion (darśana, sevā, and remembrance), making the tīrtha itself a conduit for grace and karmic purification.
Pilgrimage and sustained residence/regular visits to a Svayambhū liṅga with daily liṅga-pūjā, japa of the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), and observances like bhasma (tripuṇḍra) and rudrākṣa as supportive disciplines.
