उपमन्युतपः-निवारणप्रसङ्गः / Śiva restrains Upamanyu’s tapas (Śiva disguised as Indra)
ततः प्रसन्नचेतस्कः सुप्रणम्य कृतांजलिः । ययाचे स वरं विप्रो देवदेवान्महेश्वरात्
tataḥ prasannacetaskaḥ supraṇamya kṛtāṃjaliḥ | yayāce sa varaṃ vipro devadevānmaheśvarāt
Then, with a tranquil and joyful heart, the Brahmin bowed deeply, hands joined in reverence, and requested a boon from Maheshvara—Mahādeva, the Lord of the gods.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
It highlights the Shaiva ideal that inner serenity and humility—shown through deep prostration and añjali—prepare the seeker (pashu) to receive Shiva’s grace (anugraha) from Pati, the supreme Lord.
The verse depicts direct devotional approach to Saguna Shiva (Maheshvara as Devadeva). In Linga-worship, the same attitude is expressed through respectful pranama, folded hands, and prayerful request, treating the Linga as the living presence of Shiva.
A simple practice is indicated: begin Shiva worship with pranama and añjali, calming the mind, then offer a sincere sankalpa (prayer/boon-request). This devotional posture can accompany japa of “Om Namaḥ Śivāya.”
