Gaurī’s Entry and the Vision of Śiva
अनेन दुष्टसंघेभ्यो रक्षितं मत्तपोवनम् । अतीव मम भक्तश्च विश्रब्धश्च स्वरक्षणात्
anena duṣṭasaṃghebhyo rakṣitaṃ mattapovanam | atīva mama bhaktaśca viśrabdhaśca svarakṣaṇāt
“By him my grove of austerities has been protected from the bands of the wicked. And because of his vigilant self-guarding, he is exceedingly devoted to me and abides in fearless confidence.”
Lord Shiva
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Paśupatinātha
The verse praises protection of sacred tapas (spiritual discipline) from corrupting influences and teaches that steady self-restraint (sva-rakṣaṇa) ripens into deeper Shiva-bhakti and inner fearlessness—marks of grace under the Lord (Pati) in Shaiva Siddhanta.
A tapasvana is sustained by reverence to Saguna Shiva—often centered on Linga worship—where guarding one’s conduct and environment preserves purity for puja, japa, and dhyana, allowing devotion to become stable and confident.
Maintain “self-guarding” through daily Shiva-japa (especially the Panchakshara), disciplined conduct, and protection of one’s sacred space; this supports tapas and strengthens fearless devotion.
