वीरभद्रक्रोधशमनं देवस्तुतिश्च
Pacification of Vīrabhadra and the Gods’ Hymn
अद्भुतं चरितं ते हि निश्चितं कृपया तव । सर्वापराधः क्षंतव्यो विभवो दीनवत्सलाः
adbhutaṃ caritaṃ te hi niścitaṃ kṛpayā tava | sarvāparādhaḥ kṣaṃtavyo vibhavo dīnavatsalāḥ
Indeed, Your conduct is truly wondrous—certainly so, by the power of Your compassion. Forgive all offences, O glorious One, for You are ever affectionate to the humble and distressed.
Suta Goswami (narrating the Vāyavīya discourse in the Shiva Purana)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Mantra: अद्भुतं चरितं ते हि निश्चितं कृपया तव । सर्वापराधः क्षंतव्यो विभवो दीनवत्सलाः
Type: stotra
Role: liberating
Offering: pushpa
The verse highlights Shiva’s anugraha (saving grace): his greatness is shown in compassionate forgiveness, teaching that sincere humility and surrender soften the bonds of pāśa and open the way to liberation.
It supports Saguna devotion: the devotee approaches Shiva as the merciful Lord who accepts repentance. In Linga-worship, this becomes an inner act of surrender—seeking pardon and receiving Shiva’s purifying grace.
A practical takeaway is daily confession and prayer for forgiveness before the Shiva-linga, accompanied by japa of the Panchakshara mantra (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with a humble mind.
