वीरभद्रक्रोधशमनं देवस्तुतिश्च
Pacification of Vīrabhadra and the Gods’ Hymn
सो ऽपि संज्ञां ततो लब्ध्वा स दृष्ट्वा जीवितः सुधी । भीतः कृताञ्जलिः शंभुं तुष्टाव प्रलपन्बहु
so 'pi saṃjñāṃ tato labdhvā sa dṛṣṭvā jīvitaḥ sudhī | bhītaḥ kṛtāñjaliḥ śaṃbhuṃ tuṣṭāva pralapanbahu
Then he too regained consciousness; and seeing that he was still alive, the wise man—afraid—joined his palms in reverence and praised Śambhu with many words of supplication.
Suta Goswami (narrating to the sages at Naimisharanya, within the Vāyavīya discourse)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Sthala Purana: Not a Jyotirliṅga account; the verse depicts the bound soul (Dakṣa) turning toward Śiva in fear and supplication—anugraha beginning through śaraṇāgati.
Significance: Models repentance (aparādha-bodha) and the first movement from pāśa-bound pride to devotion.
Type: stotra
It shows the Shaiva movement from ego and fear to śaraṇāgati (taking refuge): when one recognizes Śiva as Pati (the Lord), the bound soul (paśu) naturally turns to reverent prayer, which becomes the doorway to grace.
The verse depicts direct devotion to Śambhu (Saguna Śiva) through añjali and stuti—core acts also performed before the Śiva-liṅga—where the devotee approaches the Lord as protector and bestower of anugraha (divine favor).
Offer añjali (namaskāra) and recite Śiva-stuti with a surrendered mind; as a simple practice, repeat the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” while mentally praising Śambhu and seeking inner steadiness.
