वीरभद्रक्रोधशमनं देवस्तुतिश्च
Pacification of Vīrabhadra and the Gods’ Hymn
सर्वगर्वापहारी च सर्वतेजोविलासकः । सर्वविद्यादिगूढश्च सर्वानुग्रहकारकः
sarvagarvāpahārī ca sarvatejovilāsakaḥ | sarvavidyādigūḍhaśca sarvānugrahakārakaḥ
He removes every kind of pride; He is the sacred play and radiance of all splendor. Hidden within all knowledge and its mysteries, He is the universal bestower of grace upon all beings.

The verse praises Shiva as Pati (the Lord) whose anugraha (grace) dissolves garva (ego), the chief bondage that keeps the pashu (individual soul) tied by pasha (limitations). In Shaiva Siddhanta terms, ego is removed not merely by intellect but by Shiva’s compassionate bestowal of clarity and inner radiance.
Linga-worship trains the devotee in humility and surrender—precisely the antidote to pride. By approaching Saguna Shiva through the Linga (with mantra and offerings), the seeker becomes receptive to Shiva’s hidden presence within all knowledge, culminating in the experience of His tejas (spiritual brilliance) as grace.
A practical takeaway is daily Panchakshara japa ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya") with a humility-vow, ideally alongside Tripundra (bhasma) and Rudraksha as reminders to abandon garva and seek anugraha. Meditatively, contemplate Shiva as the inner source of all learning and the giver of grace beyond personal effort.
