Viṣṇu said: “O Śambhu, You alone are also Brahmā, Viṣṇu, and Rudra. Through the guṇas—rajas, sattva, and tamas—You become the creator, the protector, and likewise the withdrawer, out of Your desire to bestow grace upon beings.”

FAQs

It affirms Śiva as Pati—the supreme Lord—who, while transcending the guṇas, employs rajas, sattva, and tamas to guide souls through creation, maintenance, and dissolution, ultimately aiming at anugraha (liberating grace).

By declaring that Brahmā, Viṣṇu, and Rudra are functions of Śiva, the verse supports Saguna worship—such as Linga-pūjā—as devotion to the one Lord whose manifest powers operate the cosmos, while pointing to his higher, guṇa-transcendent reality.

Contemplate Śiva as the inner doer behind all three cosmic functions and repeat the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with the intent of receiving anugraha; this aligns devotion (bhakti) with inner surrender to the Lord beyond the guṇas.
