Shiva Purana — Vayaviya Samhita, Shloka 17

वीरभद्रक्रोधशमनं देवस्तुतिश्च

Pacification of Vīrabhadra and the Gods’ Hymn

भवतां निर्जराणां हि क्षान्तो ऽस्माभिर्व्यतिक्रमः । क्रुद्धेष्वस्मासु युष्माकं न स्थितिर्न च जीवितम्

bhavatāṃ nirjarāṇāṃ hi kṣānto 'smābhirvyatikramaḥ | kruddheṣvasmāsu yuṣmākaṃ na sthitirna ca jīvitam

O you deathless gods, the transgression we committed against you has indeed been borne by us. But if you become wrathful with us, then for you there will be neither firm standing nor even life itself.

FAQs

It highlights how krodha (wrath) destabilizes even the mighty; in Shaiva Siddhanta, such agitation strengthens pāśa (bondage) and obstructs clarity, urging restraint and a return to dharma under Pati (Shiva).

The Linga symbolizes Shiva as the stabilizing Pati beyond factional conflict; turning to Saguna Shiva through worship is presented as the means to pacify anger and restore order when cosmic or personal hostility rises.

A practical takeaway is krodha-śamana through Panchakshara japa ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya"), along with Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and Rudrākṣa as supports for steadiness and restraint.
