वीरभद्रक्रोधशमनं देवस्तुतिश्च
Pacification of Vīrabhadra and the Gods’ Hymn
दृष्ट्वा तानमरान्भीतान्प्रणतार्तिहरो हरः । इदमाह महादेवः प्रहसन् प्रेक्ष्य पार्वतीम्
dṛṣṭvā tānamarānbhītānpraṇatārtiharo haraḥ | idamāha mahādevaḥ prahasan prekṣya pārvatīm
Seeing those devas frightened, Hara—the remover of the distress of the surrendered—smiled and, glancing at Pārvatī, spoke these words.
Lord Shiva (Mahadeva/Hara)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Umāpati
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: nurturing
The verse highlights Śiva as Praṇatārtihara—one who removes the suffering of those who surrender—teaching that fear dissolves when the soul (paśu) takes refuge in the Lord (Pati), whose grace loosens the bonds (pāśa).
It presents Saguna Śiva—compassionate, responsive, and relational—who protects devotees and devas alike. Linga-worship embodies this accessible grace: approaching Śiva with humility and surrender invites his protective, liberating presence.
The takeaway is śaraṇāgati with mantra-japa—especially the Panchākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—offered with bowed humility; this cultivates fearlessness and trust in Śiva’s grace.
