वीरभद्रक्रोधशमनं देवस्तुतिश्च
Pacification of Vīrabhadra and the Gods’ Hymn
तं दृष्ट्वा परमेशानं देवा विष्णुपुरोगमाः । प्रीता अपि च भीताश्च नमश्चक्रुर्महेश्वरम्
taṃ dṛṣṭvā parameśānaṃ devā viṣṇupurogamāḥ | prītā api ca bhītāśca namaścakrurmaheśvaram
On seeing Parameśāna, the Supreme Lord, the gods—led by Viṣṇu—became both delighted and awestruck, and they bowed in reverence to Maheśvara.
Suta Goswami (narrating Shiva Purana to the sages, within the Vayu Samhita discourse)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Ishana
Mantra: namaḥ (implicit salutation to Maheśvara)
Type: stotra
Offering: pushpa
It shows the proper Shaiva attitude toward Pati (Śiva): even exalted devas respond with devotion and reverential awe, recognizing Śiva as Parameśāna, the supreme ruler beyond all limited powers.
The verse highlights Saguna reverence—seeing the Lord as Maheśvara and offering namaḥ. In Linga worship, the same inner stance is expressed through bowing, offerings, and surrender to Śiva as the visible focus of the Supreme.
Practice namaḥ-bhāva (the attitude of salutation): bow mentally and physically, and repeat a Shaiva mantra such as “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” cultivating both loving joy and sacred awe before the Lord.
