Dakṣa’s Sacrificial Undertaking and the Devas’ Assembly without Īśvara
असतां संमतिर्यत्र सतामवमतिस्तथा । दंडो देवकृतस्तत्र सद्यः पतति दारुणः

Where the wicked are applauded and the righteous are treated with contempt, there the terrible punishment fashioned by the Divine falls swiftly.

Sthala Purana: A general principle of divine retribution: when adharma is socially normalized (praising the wicked, scorning the good), ‘devakṛta daṇḍa’ descends—anticipating the violent correction of Dakṣa’s yajña.
It warns that collective moral inversion—praising adharma and insulting dharma—creates a karmic condition where divine chastisement manifests quickly; in Shaiva Siddhanta, this reflects the Lord’s governance (niyati) that restores order and turns beings back toward right conduct.
Linga-worship trains the devotee to honor Shiva as Pati (the Lord) and to revere dharmic qualities; the verse implies that devotion without ethical alignment is hollow, while respect for the righteous is a sign of true orientation toward Saguna Shiva’s grace and discipline.
Practice daily Panchakshara japa ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya") with self-audit: avoid praising harmful conduct, offer respect to sādhus, and apply Tripuṇḍra/Bhasma as a reminder to restrain ego and align actions with dharma.
