Umāyāḥ Kriyāyoga-Rahasya
The Esoteric Teaching on Umā’s Kriyāyoga
स्थापयित्वा महामायामूर्तिं सम्यक्प्रपूज्य च । यंयं प्रार्थयते कामं तंतं प्राप्नोति साधकः
sthāpayitvā mahāmāyāmūrtiṃ samyakprapūjya ca | yaṃyaṃ prārthayate kāmaṃ taṃtaṃ prāpnoti sādhakaḥ
Having installed the image-form of Mahāmāyā and worshipped Her properly, whatever desired aim the practitioner prays for—that very aim the sādhaka attains.
Suta Goswami (narrating the Uma-samhita teaching to the sages of Naimisharanya)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Umāpati
Sthala Purana: Not a Jyotirliṅga account; it is a pratiṣṭhā-and-pūjā phala statement: installing Mahāmāyā’s mūrti and worshipping properly yields fulfillment of prayed desires.
Significance: Highlights the efficacy of correct installation (pratiṣṭhā) and proper worship (samyak-pūjā) for siddhi/desired outcomes.
Shakti Form: Durgā
Role: liberating
Offering: pushpa
The verse emphasizes that disciplined, rule-based worship (samyak-pūjā) of the Divine Power (Mahāmāyā) bears definite fruit. In a Shaiva Siddhanta lens, grace flows through proper devotion and practice, turning prayer into a means of both worldly fulfillment and inner ripening toward liberation.
It supports the principle of saguna-upāsanā taught throughout the Shiva Purana: installing a sacred form and worshipping it correctly becomes a concrete channel for devotion and divine response. Just as Linga worship invokes Shiva’s grace through a consecrated symbol, worship of Mahāmāyā invokes Shakti—inseparable from Shiva—through an established mūrti.
A practical takeaway is: first establish (sthāpana) the deity-form, then perform complete worship according to injunctions—offerings, mantra, and reverence—followed by a clear prayer (prārthanā) for one’s aim. The stress is on correctness and steadiness of sādhanā rather than mere wishing.
