Umāyāḥ Kriyāyoga-Rahasya
The Esoteric Teaching on Umā’s Kriyāyoga
प्रधानं कारणं योगो विमुक्तेर्मुनिसत्तम । क्रियायोगस्तु योगस्य परमन्ध्येयसाधनम्
pradhānaṃ kāraṇaṃ yogo vimuktermunisattama | kriyāyogastu yogasya paramandhyeyasādhanam
O best of sages, Yoga is the foremost cause of liberation. And among the disciplines of Yoga, Kriyā-yoga is the supreme means for attaining the highest object of meditation—Śiva, the Lord beyond bondage.
Lord Shiva
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
The verse declares Yoga as the primary cause of vimukti (liberation) and elevates Kriyā-yoga as the most effective discipline for realizing the supreme dhyeya—Śiva as Pati, the liberating Lord who severs pāśa (bondage).
Kriyā-yoga in the Śaiva Purāṇic sense includes regulated worship—such as Linga-pūjā, mantra-japa, and disciplined conduct—which steadies the mind and matures devotion, leading from Saguna worship toward direct contemplation of Śiva as the highest dhyeya.
Adopt Kriyā-yoga as a structured practice: daily Śiva-pūjā (often to the Linga), mantra-japa (notably the Pañcākṣarī ‘Om Namaḥ Śivāya’), and steady dhyāna on Śiva as the supreme goal of meditation.
