महापातकवर्णनम् (Mahāpātaka-varṇanam) — “Description of Great Sins and Their Consequences”
नाभिनन्दंति तद्वाक्यमुत्तरं च प्रयच्छति । गुरुकर्मण्यसाध्यं यत्तदुपेक्षां करोति च
nābhinandaṃti tadvākyamuttaraṃ ca prayacchati | gurukarmaṇyasādhyaṃ yattadupekṣāṃ karoti ca
They do not approve his words, yet they still give a reply; and whatever task is hard to accomplish in the service of the Guru, that too they neglect.

It condemns half-hearted discipleship—outwardly responding, but inwardly withholding reverence and avoiding difficult duties—showing that true progress toward Shiva requires sincere humility and committed guru-sevā.
In Shaiva tradition, worship of the Linga is sustained by right conduct and obedience to the Guru who transmits proper mantra, pūjā-vidhi, and discipline; neglect of the Guru’s work weakens the very foundation of Saguna Shiva worship.
Practice steady guru-sevā alongside daily Shiva-upāsanā—regular japa of the Panchākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) with a disciplined routine—without avoiding the harder duties of sādhanā.
