Pṛthuśruta was his son; Saṃdhi is remembered as Pṛthuśruta’s son. From Saṃdhi was born Amarṣaṇa, and from Amarṣaṇa was born Marutvān.
Suta Goswami
This verse preserves sacred lineage (vaṃśa) memory within the Purāṇic narrative, grounding later dharma and devotion in an unbroken succession—an important Purāṇic method for transmitting Shaiva tradition and authority.
While the verse itself is genealogical, in the Shiva Purana such lineages typically frame the appearance of devotees, kings, or sages who later establish Shiva-worship (including Liṅga-pratiṣṭhā, vrata, and pilgrimage). It functions as narrative scaffolding for Saguna Shiva’s grace manifesting through history.
No direct practice is prescribed in this shloka; the takeaway is to continue Shiva-centered sādhana in one’s own lineage—daily Panchākṣarī japa ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya") and remembrance of Śiva as Pati, the liberating Lord.
