Kāla-vañcana (Overcoming/Outwitting Time) and the Pañcabhūta Basis of the Body
न शृणोति यदा शृण्वन्योगाभ्यासेन देविके । म्रियतेभ्यसमानस्तु योगी तिष्ठेद्दिवानिशम्
na śṛṇoti yadā śṛṇvanyogābhyāsena devike | mriyatebhyasamānastu yogī tiṣṭheddivāniśam
O Devī, when—through sustained practice of yoga—the yogin no longer hears even while sounds are present, then, becoming unlike those who are bound to death, that yogin should remain steadily absorbed day and night.
Lord Shiva
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: teaching
Cosmic Event: Transcending mṛtyu (death-bound condition) as yogic ‘amṛta’ orientation
It describes a mature stage of yogic absorption where sensory engagement falls away; by abiding steadily in that state, the aspirant moves beyond the death-bound condition (paśu) toward Shiva’s liberating grace (Pati).
Saguna worship (Linga, mantra, and devotion) stabilizes the mind and purifies bonds; the verse points to the inward fruition of that worship—single-pointed absorption where awareness rests in Shiva beyond sensory disturbance.
Consistent yoga-abhyāsa: daily japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), steady dhyāna, and pratyāhāra-like withdrawal from distractions—maintained with disciplined regularity day and night.
