Therefore, from That One whose origin is unmanifest, countless manifestations arise—just as fire lies hidden in wood, oil in sesame seeds, and ghee in milk.
Lord Shiva
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Tatpuruṣa
Role: teaching
It teaches that the Supreme Shiva (Pati) is avyakta—beyond sensory grasp—yet all forms and powers emerge from Him as inherent potential, like fire in wood. The seeker is guided to look for the indwelling essence rather than only external appearances.
The Linga symbolizes the unmanifest source that supports all manifestation. Saguna worship (form, name, rites) becomes a doorway to realizing the same Shiva as the subtle, hidden reality present within all beings and elements.
Meditate on Shiva as the inner essence (antarvyāpin) while doing japa of the Panchakshara—“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—and let outward rites (such as Tripuṇḍra/bhasma and Linga-pūjā) support inward recognition of the unmanifest within the manifest.
